This is Jeff Welch, and as you can see from the picture, he gets the coolest dad award. Your dad may be annoying on social media, but Welch is just cool. He's also a writer, mostly working with poetry.
In September, he wrote a post about rules for dating his daughters. It went viral because, well, it's really cool.
This is his post about the shirt his daughter gave him.
"My daughter gave me this Captain America shirt for father's day a couple years ago. I'm really more of a Deadpool guy myself, because F-bombs and strap-ons... but this is at least a throwback to a time when NO ONE was defending nazis, or saying that opposing nazis is just as bad as being a nazi, so I'm going to be wearing the [F***] out of this shirt for the foreseeable future."
Like we said, Welch is definitely a great poet. So being a great poet and a great dad officially makes him an excellent human. He writes many of his poems on backdrops that one of his daughters creates. "She's an amazing artist and writer, and doesn't use the terrible language that is a staple of what I usually do here. Hahaha. Go check her out," he writes in his post.
As you can see, he's not afraid to have a little fun with his kids. Even if that means letting them paint your toenails the color of Barney. And are those cat leggings? This dad is winning at being a dad.
Welch's Instagram is full of shots of his beautiful family and, of course, poetry. He's constantly posting photos like the proud dad he should be, probably reminding you of your own dad being embarrassing. But like we said, Welch is cool, so you know that his "dating my daughters" post is probably not embarrassing at all.
And if you thought it wouldn't be, you were right! "I ain't raisin' no princesses," he writes on his caption. Well, you've all been warned. Even if they don't need their dad to put anyone in place, we know we definitely wouldn't want that.
"I get it. I really do. I'm all too painfully aware off the terrible things your head can do to you. I fight those battles every single day, and I always will. It's difficult to love that fight day in and day out, but I do relish even the smallest victories in that fight, and that's how I keep going," writes Welch in another post. Not only does he give great advice to his daughters and to the people trying to date them, he gives good advice to the rest of the world, too.
But if you scroll through his Instagram, it just keeps getting better. He posts about his daughter's birthday, writing her a sweet note. "Happy sweet 16 Jade!!!! I have no doubt the world is going to be a better place because you are in it. I don't think I can take much credit for that, but you'll never know how proud I am to be your dad. I love you daughter!" Alright, alright, that's cute.
Welch wants his daughters to stand tall and not have to have a "creepy" dad to protect them when they choose who to date. We think most dads could probably say the same. Hopefully his daughters won't ever have to deal with someone who doesn't know how to respect them, but they'll know what to do if they have to.
"@natasha.welch and I had an amazing couple of days of hiking and camping, but we are both very happy to be laying our tired bodies in our cozy bed at home right now. Yesterday's hike was a great deal colder than we had anticipated. The wind, thick fog, and SNOW gave it a real Jack London vibe," he wrote in another post where he went hiking and camping. He's also setting an example for his daughters on how to brave the wilderness, which is an important life lesson.
"Y'all are just going to have to indulge me in a very proud father moment here. This is my oldest daughter Jade, and she amazes me everyday. Oh, it's not all the talent she has just oozing from every pore, it's her heart. Yes, she paints, and writes, and sings with the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, but it is her heart full of a deep loving empathy that really just takes my breath away sometimes. I have far too many moments where I just can't believe that I had anything to do with the creation and upbringing of this phenomenal human being," said another post. Excuse us while we go get some tissues, we've betting cutting onions and reading this post.
Welch also likes to detail the silly moments he has with his kids. The trio went down to the lake one day, and Welch provided this story. "Laney (the youngest) provided the 2 best quotes of day. The first one... *looks down at her skinny legs* "I'm really just a toothpick with eyes...and a really big mouth." and then a few minutes later... "Look dad! I'm gonna put my face hole underwater!" he wrote.
Welch took his daughter Laney to the park on a day when she hadn't been feeling well. "[W]e came to the park so she could ride her bike, and roller skate, and I could shoot (in the general direction of) some hoops. Now we're at the pond to visit Doug and Brooke, her turtles that she released a few years ago. I'm pretty sure they've been getting it on, because now there are DOZENS of turtles who look just like them!" he wrote. Way to go, Dough and Brooke.
If you do happen to take a stroll through Welch's Instagram account, you'll note that he's very true to his word. He's honest and open about the struggles he has. And also about how much he loves his daughters, if you couldn't tell.
So, are you wondering why it's been so long since your dad has written anything nice about you? Maybe it's time that you call him up. Or if he's been posting all about you over social media already, keep on hiding from all his friend requests.
