Worst brother ever or best brother ever? Gordy Yates realized that his twin sister had always gotten him great gifts for his birthday, but he had never gotten her anything. So when she turned 28, he realized he had to do something special to make up for it.
"I’m the worst brother because I never get her anything for her birthday. Generally, I don’t get someone a birthday present if they live far away, so I usually don’t get her ANYTHING even though she always gets me something," said Yates on his blog.
So when her 28th birthday rolled around, Yates decided to recreate 28 of her photos on social media. "By looking at these photos, you’ll see how cool she is!" said Yates. It's a present so great it doesn't need a gift receipt!
His tongue-in-cheek recreation of his sister's photos are pretty creative. For instance, his photos feature Yates wearing floral leggings in lieu of his sister's skirts and lady-pants.
But Yates and his sister's lives have differed in more than just their fashion choices. “I mean, I guess it could be because we live very different lives,” said Yates. “I’ve been living the single life of parties and traveling while she’s been married and has two kids. It’s like I feel that I’m not quite an adult so I don’t need to give people things but they should give things to me."
But that didn't stop Yates from recreating her Instagram posts with her kids. Yates, who recently moved to Taiwan, doesn't have a cat of his own and had to around to see if anyone would let him borrow a cat for the project. Yates sarcastically stated it " wasn’t weird at all since I’m new to the area and am just getting to know people.”
Eventually, one family allowed Yates to use their cat Sophie. Sophie might look like a great stand-in for a child in the photos, but behind the scenes it was all drama. Said Yates of his co-star, she was "not a happy camper" and "wasn't a very good model, either tbh." Diva alert!
And if dealing with a cat wasn't hard enough, Yates decided not follow the advice of W. C. Fields and worked with both animals and children. All of the photos taken of Yates and the Sophie were shot by children. “Directing them on getting the right angle was a huge first-world struggle,” said Yates.
Yates couldn't help but notice similarities between the cat representing his niece and his actual niece. “They both like to eat off of and crawl on the floor, they both like to bite me, they’re both really small, they’re both really hard to control, and I can’t give birth to either of them," joked Yates.
But Yates did notice one significant difference between cats and kids. "Cats are quieter and don't need a lot of attention," said Yates. Words of wisdom!
Good news for all of the ladies who are impressed by this bachelor's sense of humor, good looks, and ability to create viral content on the internet. Yates isn't opposed to having kids of his own. “I think once you have a kid, you get to be a kid again and grow up all over again.” said Yates. “Plus I am really excited to see my face on another human being’s body. They’re gonna be so cute!”
Yates said all of the behind the scenes drama "was all worth it because Meredith loved the post!' But then again, who wouldn't?
