Gavel was taken in by the police academy in Australia. He was supposed to be trained into a police dog. You know the ones, the serious, don’t-mess-with-us-dogs you see when there is an investigation going on.
I’m sure the police had visions of Gavel in a few years time before making the decision to fire him. Visions of him licking a criminal’s ankle rather than grabbing him by it to pin him down. Or maybe one where Gavel chases a random Frisbee rather than the criminal who is running away.
The BBC reported Gavel’s story. “Instead of tackling hardened criminals, the (dog) liked to meet strangers, and police in Australia felt he ‘did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line,’” the BBC reported. Sure, blame the dog for doing what he knows best.
It seems that Gavel “just couldn’t get in together in time.” The BBC reports how this puppy was too sociable. Probably wagging his tail and licking shoes rather than running through hoops and learning to sniff cocaine.
The post reads, “There were lots of comments from people at Open Day on the weekend, expressing how much they enjoyed following via social media Gavel's progression from aspiring police pooch to vice-regal dog,” the office said. “The truth is that we at Government House have loved sharing his story with you! And so today, we are releasing, and re-releasing, some of our favorite Gavel moments, some more candid than others.”
The pup has become a source of “untold joy” for the governor, his wife and all the staff in the mansion. As well as, the thousands of people who have already visited the estate. You can just imagine Gavel giving tours and directions with this tail.
You’d think this was a joke but this pup is actually giving tours. Yeh. His career has gone from overexcited police dog in training to welcoming guests and joining tour groups. The pup even has some involvement during special ceremonies.
Now I’m a cat person, so I’m not easily weaned by those googly eyes. Don’t be fooled by Gavel’s ‘niceness.’ This pup wanted an upgrade. Police work is hard work, OK. This pup is evil, just wait, the truth will come out.
