If you are a woman, any woman, you know what it's like to be talked down too. If you have a vagina or identify as a woman, it is guaranteed that at some point in your life have been a victim of "mansplaining". On Wednesday, a women's studies PhD candidate currently living in the UK named Nicole Froio asked the women on Twitter to share their mansplaining experiences. Their responses are really really annoying.
After seeing a thread on a feminist group she moderates, she was inspired to start her own thread. She asked the ladies in the Twittersphere what the "most obvious thing a man has ever mansplained to you." She was flooded with funny, but-not-so-funny responses.
Why do men think they know anything and everything about our periods? Are you going around telling your boyfriends and brothers the ins and outs of your bleeding cycle every month? I didn't think so. And even if you did, it wouldn't make them a GD expert. Let us bleed in peace please.
So this is why men are still cat-calling us! Yes, we secretly love to be yelled at and whistled at because deep down we love being humiliated and feeling totally intimidated and unsafe. It's just in our nature, you know?
Hey man, don't try to control my birth control. I don't even know what birth control would be the healthiest for me. What I do know is that you mansplaining to me is definitely the healthiest birth control for any chance of me having babies with you.
This doesn't even make sense. If her name was Moni maybe I could see how they could ASK if it's short for Monica. But Mona is short for Monaca? Mona-i-ca? That is like saying that his name is Brad, short for complete idiot head. It just doesn't make sense. But Brad is totally being a complete idiot head.
Hey man, I got the memo. I will totally reach out to my 3-year-old and crush her dreams of being a princess. Because after all, that is a totally realistic goal especially growing up in the United States and we wouldn't want her to go down that road. It's good to steer them in the right direction while they are still young.
Hey! I talked to the cats and they said that while they totally appreciate the words of wisdom, they think you are a really annoying and think that you should focus on yourself. They also said 'meow meow, meow meow meow'. Maybe you should go pet some dogs? Thanks so much.
While most of the responses were from women and their experiences, some men chimed in as well. Some tweeted to mansplain the subject of mansplaining. Dear men, just let us vent please? You don't own our feelings. Got it?
Another dude reached out in an almost apology, explaining that he once mansplained and his wife still won't get over it. He would apologize to her, but he doesn't remember what he said. I guess he's suffering from Mansplainesia, which is very common.
