But have you ever wondered how clean the sheets are in hotels? Many of us check for bed bugs, but not at the cleanliness of the linens. Most of us figure they're probably freshly cleaned sheets and if there aren't any noticeable stains, it's probably fine.
But just because you can't see stains on sheets, does that mean they're clean? Not necessarily. You may want to buckle in for this one. Turns out those soft, comfy sheets are grosser than you imagined.
After some investigating, they found a note tucked between the sheets. It was left by some anonymous good Samaritan. However, it wasn't good news. It read, "If you're reading this, then house keeping did not change your sheets!"
For starters, you don't know who was in that bed before you. And you definitely don't know what they were doing in it. They could have clipped their toenails, had dinner or done crunches while sweating all over the place.
Not to mention, there are other activities that make you sweat in bed. Maybe they took place before you got there, and maybe they didn't. Who knows what untold fluids were left in the space you're supposed to now sleep in. The problem is you don't know and shouldn't be expected to gamble with it.
Is this making you paranoid? It should. How will you know if you're sleeping in clean sheets? You can carry a black light with you everywhere you go, but that might make you seem crazy unless you have a glow-in-the-dark tattoo.
Of course, there is a solution to make sure our hotel sheets are clean. It involves taking the note idea and paying it forward. Share this idea, and make a habit of writing a friendly note to the next guest in your room before you check out.
And of course, leave the note in your sheets. Also make it a habit of checking for such notes in your beds. Hopefully you'll never find one, and not just because the maid staff caught wind of this idea and only removed the warning.
The hotel is just a minor part of your vacation. Looking on the bright side, hopefully this will motivate you to get out more on your time off and not just sit around in the room. There's a whole world of fun things you can explore. And hey, I'm sure your dog won't mind a dirty bed. It's still cleaner and more comfy than the floor.
