Young people are becoming less and less interested in having kids - in fact, the fertility rate in the US is the lowest that it’s ever been! While that might seem like a bad thing, there are actually quite a few reasons why child-free people might be onto something...
We don’t need more children in the world. At this point in humanity having biological kids isn’t about keeping the human race alive - it’s about popping out a tiny replica of you and your significant other. It might be nice, but it’s definitely not necessary.
You might want to sit down for this one: raising a child from birth through age 17 costs more than $200,000. Can you even imagine all of the things you could buy with that kind of money? Not to mention most of us have student loans and debt to pay off...adding a kid in the mix is pretty much just a recipe for financial disaster.
Not having kids means that no one’s going to wake you up at 6am every single day - including Saturdays! Is having a kid worth getting woken up that early every day? We’ll let you make that judgement call.
We all have those friends who have a kid and then suddenly they drop off the face of the earth. Having a kid is a pretty big priority, so it’s understandable that parents often don’t have time for things like going out for drinks on a Saturday night.
Not having kids means that you can pretty much resume your normal fun adult activities without taking tiny humans into account every time.
Does anyone else just think that pregnancy sounds absolutely horrifying? It lasts for nine months and you're pretty much in pain and agony the entire time. And then afterward your body will never look the same again. No thanks.
Although being a parent and having a fulfilling career is totally possible in this day and age, it’s certainly a lot of hard work and sacrifice. If you’re willing to go through with all of that, then that’s great! But a lot of us are just more interested in furthering ourselves in our careers without the sacrifice.
10. You Can Be As Selfish And Irresponsible As You Want
Work is stressful for everyone, but if you’re a parent then you know that your job doesn’t end when you leave the office...once you get home it’s time to cook dinner and get the kids ready for bed, and then you might have half an hour to yourself at the end of it all, if you’re lucky…
Parents often times lose their identity to the demands of being a parent. Your life starts to revolve around your kids and you might forever be known as the “Soccer Mom” even if you were once that cool chick headbanging at every local metal show.
