As if the old NES games weren't difficult enough, now you can drink and play at the same time - no, the cartridges aren't functioning games - for added fun. You can choose from an entire assortment of your favorite games. And then stock them full of your favorite drink.
The folks over at InkWhiskey combined their love of drinking with their love of gaming, and a beautiful new product was born. Their booth popped up at New York Comic Con, where it was a smashing success. The company brought all of its wares, including a collection of games, shot glasses, and pint glasses.
This project out of Portland, Oregon, began as a dream on Kickstarter. "Drink Back Your Childhood," was their slogan. "We were about 332 percent over our Kickstarter goal,” the makers said of the success of the project. Their original goal was $12,000, and they received $40,000.
“Basically, we sit down, bottle of scotch on the table, and just drink a bit,” they said of the invention process. “Some of the better puns, like ‘Fine Ale Fantasy’ and ‘Kega Man,’ those were actually convention suggestions." A good pun for "Metroid" is still in the works.
Finally, a way to be discreet about your drinking habit. Just pop it in your pocket and you're good to go. No one will ever question your decision to carry around a vintage gaming cartridge. It's what all the cool kids are doing.
"Show your face and show your heart. People aren't just buying into an idea their buying into your passion for the idea. Earn their trust. Talk about why you're doing what you're doing," they said of how they took a "weird idea" and made it successful.
