We're still over a year away from the next and final season of Game of Thrones. What makes that wait extra excruciating is how the last season ended. The wall was destroyed and an army of zombies are on the march south.
Season seven ended on a particularly bleak note. This is an enemy that can't be compromised with and they have one goal: the death of every living being they come across. And they're closer than ever to fulfilling their mission.
Some fans have speculated on the strange connection between Bran and the Night King. In a psychic vision, the evil ice emperor left a mark on the young psychic (and not a cool Game of Thrones tattoo type mark, either). How was he able to see him when no one else could?
It stems from when Bran was still receiving his training. He went back in time and saw the creation of the Night King. He was warned about staying in the past for too long, as he might get stuck. We also saw that he would occasionally unintentionally leap into other people in the past, as he did with poor Hodor.
This theory states that Bran entered the human who became the Night King and part of him became trapped in there for thousands of years. Essentially, the Night King is another version of Bran Stark. The wolf in the marching formation is him letting us know this.
This is all a bit of a stretch. But it's fun to speculate on, as it gives us something to do during the long wait for new episodes. The next season is going to be bonkers. All bets are off and anyone can die, which is saying a lot for a show where that's kind of always been the case.
Hopefully, our heroes are up to the task. As we sadly learned from Ned Stark, when you play the game of thrones you either win or you die. If their heads aren't in it, they might wind up on icy sticks.
