Aziz Ansari loves love. How much? He wrote a book entitled Modern Romance detailing, well, modern romance. The book unpacks what it means to date post-Tinder and takes a look at the mating rituals of millennials.
Even though Ansari has literally written the book on dating in modern times, Ansari is currently single. You heard that right, ladies. The Master of None is also the Master of Not Having a Girlfriend at This Moment.
Ansari had been dating pastry chef Courtney McBroom since 2013. "I met her years ago when she was seeing someone. I thought she was really cool. Then I ran into her randomly and she was single," said Ansari of how the two met.
But in 2016, the pair split, which, if you follow the logic, would make Ansari single. A low-profile break up followed their low-profile relationship. So if you didn't know the news, don't feel out of the loop. It's hard to keep up with all the hot goss.
Not only is Ansari single. He's also ready to mingle. The comedian/actor/writer/foodie says he has his professional life on lock, however he's looking to fill that giant hole in his heart. Aww! Just like all of us, he wants love.
When you're as successful as Ansari, you can pretty much buy anything. Except happiness. That you have to barter for. "I'm very happy. That's another reason I don't really care about work stuff," said Ansari. "I'd rather figure out the other things in my life that I don't feel as good about. I don't feel as good about my personal life as I do my professional life."
You'd think that Ansari's life is perfect. There's no room for improvement at all. But when asked if he would change anything, Ansari said he'd “probably adjust my personal life to be in a loving relationship and I'd probably just adjust it so I got to spend more time with my parents.” Family first, right?
So what is he looking for? "Someone I would be thrilled to do nothing with who would be as equally thrilled to do nothing with me," said Ansari. In other words, the Netflix star is looking for someone he can Netflix and Chill with.
During his research for Modern Romance, Ansari said most people had an "upgrade problem." “There are some people here that have what we call ‘the upgrade problem.’ Why would I settle down with someone? Every time I turn the corner, there’s this amazing person,” said Ansari.
Ansari isn't just the presenter of the Upgrade Problem Club. He's also a member. Before Ansari's relationship with McBroom, Ansari admitted he was also searching for the shinier toy. It takes one to know one!
Ansari admitted that at the end of the day, none of that mattered. “What you really want is someone you can hang around with on a Sunday afternoon and watch a TV show with, and do nothing, and feel like it’s the most fun ever," said Ansari.
