Ghosting, as pretty much everyone who is dating knows, is when you find out that you've been broken up with because the other person cuts off all contact. Like they're dead. But worse. Because you know the other person is running around, still alive, and breaking hearts.
Ghosting sucks. But unfortunately it's pretty common in the dating world. It's so common that a survey of 800 millennials conducted by Plenty of Fish found that 80 percent of them had been ghosted at some point in their dating lives. Ouch!
The odds are, you've been a victim of ghosting at some point. And let's be honest, you've probably done your fair share of ghosting too. But be glad that you're not Charlene, who was ghosted by two different guys she met on Bumble on the same (probably miserable) weekend.
"CUT TO GUY #2. Everything seemed fine. But then, again, on the day of our date, he was nowhere to be found where we were supposed to meet," said Charlene. Uh-oh! Don't look behind the door! It's a ghost!
Charlene says she's partly to blame for the situation. "Again, it was also fine that he bailed. I'm not entirely blameless in this instance , since I was a touch late (unexpected roadwork), but I figured, given the circumstances, he would wait a few minutes for me. I was incorrect," said Charlene. "So I drove home, but I got these messages a bit later, where he suggested we try to salvage the evening."
Charlene was left putting the pieces together. "I'm not sure if there's just something in the water or what, but I consider myself at least a moderately attractive woman. I'm sometimes funny, a decent conversationalist, and if all goes according to plan, I'm going to be a doctor in a year," said Charlene.
Charlene raises some very valid points about her ghosting. "What confused me the most is the active pursuit they both displayed — going out of their ways to claim attraction, with no payoff. I don't know if this is an elaborate prank or if Mercury is in retrograde or whatever, but if this is happening to anyone else out there…you are not alone," said Charlene.
What the hell, dudes? Has anyone ever told you, "Don't pull that thang out unless you plan to bang?"
