'School's out for Summer' is no longer a thing when you get to college. Sure you can take a summer break, but then you won't have enough credits and you will end up being a super senior. You know, taking more than 4 years to graduate. In high school you counted down the days until the break began and now you'd rather take classes through summer and get done earlier. What happened to you?
You cannot fail this test. Not because your parents will be disappointed. Not because you want to prove yourself that you can pass. But because college is expensive and you can't afford to retake the class.
In high school you were a total loser if you cared about your grades. In college, you are lame if you don't. You'll find yourself in study groups, bonding over tests and pulling all nighters with new friends. Smart is cool after high school.
You graduate high school and all of a sudden you feel like an adult. No more voice cracking, no more growth spurts, no more mom dressing you for class in the morning. You can do what you want, wear what you want and be whoever you want to be.
You are paying for school so you better take it seriously. You work hard for the money, so your off time is all work and very little play. Good thing your friends are all too broke to hang out too so you aren't missing much. It will all be worth it one day when you graduate and get the job of your dreams and have a million dollars, right? Ha! Good luck to you.
You used to be the only one with the fake ID. Now everyone has one and you don't even need one because there are house parties everywhere you look. And dorm parties. And campus parties. Who needs to go to a bar when there are parties everywhere you look?
You used to mooch off of your parents. You would use their car and make them pay for gas. You would crank the AC and they would pay for it. But now, it's all on you. So you better walk to that party and keep that AC off unless you are dying of heat.
No one is going to ground you if you skip class. The principal isn't going to call your parents and no one is going to tell on you if you play hooky. But you are going to miss that very important lecture, fail that class and then you may have to retake it. Just get out of bed and go.
Gone are the days that you can underage drink and still function properly the next day. Hangovers are a real thing and they are only going to get worse the older you get. And worse and worse and by the time you get to your 30s you'll be lucky if you can have one drink without feeling cloudy the next day.
Bye bye recess and lunch breaks. Now you have long lecture classes with hundreds of people in them. You have five-hour breaks between classes and sometimes you only have one class a day. You may even have to go to class on Saturdays. College is weird.
In high school you go to the bookstore with your parents, pick up a few books and get a cute book cover for fun. In college, you go to the campus book store and you are lucky if your books only cost $500. ONLY!? The books, office supplies and study guides are beyond expensive. For this price they better be made of gold.
