Chris Hemsworth was destined to play Thor. He's tall, he's blond, and he was born on a Thursday - the day of the week that's named after Thor. The 6'2 actor was birthed into this world on Thursday, August 11, 1983. And thank God for his birth. The world would have drastically suffered if those cheekbones and chiseled abs never existed.
While Chris Hemsworth is so impossibly perfect, it seems like only one person who looks like him can exist in the world at a time, there are actually three Hemsworth brothers. All three are equally handsome, and all three are actors. Luke, the oldest, has appeared on Westworld. Liam, the baby, is known for his role in The Hunger Games and his engagement to Miley Cyrus. And Chris, the middle Hemsworth, is just right.
Most people know Chris Hemsworth as Thor. But as a child he was known by a different name. He was referred to by the childhood nickname of "Kip." No, he wasn't a huge Rudyard Kipling fan. He couldn't pronounce his own name, and it would come out as "Kiptader."
Chris Hemsworth is not from some strange land that grows men to be perfectly tall and blond. He's from Australia. When he grew up, he spent part of his time in Melbourne and part of his time in the Outback. There were no rules, but it was just right.
Hemsworth loves his native country. He loves it so much he's even a global ambassador for Tourism Australia. Which, honestly, is a smart move, because he makes us want to follow him anywhere. Hemsworth currently lives in New South Wales, Australia and also, our hearts.
If Chris Hemsworth his Australian, does that mean he's related to Crocodile Dundee? Haha. Very funny, but yes. Hemsworth is related to bushman Rod Ansell, the man who inspired the 1986 movie Crocodile Dundee, by marriage. Ansell is married to Chris's mother's sister, the author Joanne van Os.
Of course Chris Hemsworth would end up as an actor. With those baby blues, it would be a crime against humanity if his face wasn't plastered all over the cinema. But before he was an actor, he held a couple of odd jobs. He tried his hand as a waiter, a bartender, and a construction worker. He also worked in a surf wear shop, we're assuming as a mannequin?
Chris Hemsworth's first big break was when he was cast in the Australian soap opera Home and Away. He appeared on a total of 171 episodes, before leaving the series in 2006. The show has also had appearances from future Australian exports Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, and Guy Pearce. After Hemsworth left Home and Away, he appeared on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars. Because of course he did.
The Hemsworth sibling rivalry is very real. Both Liam and Chris Hemsworth were ranked on Glamor Magazine's "50 Sexiest Men" list in 2013. Chris trailed behind his younger brother, coming in at Number 7. But Chris got his comeuppance. The next year, Chris was named as People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. Ugh! The genes in that family! Mom and dad must be proud.
10. He Competed With His Brother For The Part Of Thor
Chris and Liam have competed for more than just the title of "sexiest man alive ever in the entire history of sexy men." They also competed for the part of Thor. Liam kept on getting called back for the God of Thunder, and was even down to the last four or five. Ultimately, the part went to Chris, and the world was never the same again.
11. The Hemsworth Sibling Rivalry Has Gotten Nasty
The Hemsworth boys have bickered over more than who's sexier than who. Growing up, their rivalry got a bit nasty — and violent. When they were kids, Luke threw a kitchen knife at his older brother, Chris, and it hit Chris in the forehead. Maybe he was just preparing for his role in The Hunger Games years before he even knew it was a thing?
When they found out Liam didn't get the part of Thor, Chris decided to audition for the part again. His mom helped him with his audition tape by reading Odin's lines. Because goshdarn it, one of her sons is going to end up as the God of Thunder, even if it has to be Luke!
Hemsworth had to put on 20 pounds to get ripped to play the God of Thunder in Thor. However, he might have overdone it. When he went to try on his costume, he couldn't fit in it. "Just before we started the movie ... [I] put the costume on and within a couple of minutes, my hands started going numb," said Hemsworth. We're wondering if there were any photos of his arms taken at the time. We need to see them for, um, for science.
Thor was the role that made Hemsworth a household name in America. However, the Aussie actor wasn't a fan. Chris Hemsworth has stated that he was"frustrated and bored" with the character. But when Thor: Ragnarock came around, the actor was instrumental in making it funny. It's arguably the best Thor movie, and not just because Thor's long locks get cut.
Sorry, Ladies! You can't marry Chris Hemsworth. And it's not because he's an international movie star. It's because he's already married. To Spanish model/actress/producer Elsa Pataky, no less. The two have three children together, India Rose and twins Sasha and Tristan. If anyone needs us, we'll just be crying all the tears in the world.
